Singing is a spiritual activity, but one that many of us are afraid to do. Every culture on the Earth sings together for instruction, play, prayer, healing, social bonding, or entertainment, and there is no reason you can’t join in.
Maggie Wheeler and Emile Hassan Dyer, codirectors of the Golden Bridge Community Choir, invite you to “sing with spirit” in a safe environment. Together, we will learn inspirational songs of peace, hope, justice, and praise from a variety of cultures. We also tap traditional and urban beatbox styles and body rhythms.
No singing experience is necessary to enjoy everything this workshop has to offer. We learn all songs without the use of sheet music, so those at all levels of musical ability can experience community and connection through singing.
Maggie Wheeler is an actor best known for her work as the character Janice on NBC’s Friends. She is a singer, songwriter, choir director, workshop leader, and a graduate of the Community Choir Leadership Training program.
NOTE: There is a suggested donation of $10 per person at the door. Children are welcome to attend the workshop; parents are encouraged to consider the length of the presentation (3 hours). Please let us know of their attendance on your registration form. Child care will be provided (suggested donation). Please tell us how many and their ages.
